I don't think that's likely, but the song creates an evocative atmosphere! It's based on nightmares the writer had as a child, about spiders.

The writer of the song said that his father had no idea what the bedtime stories he was being told as a child did to him! So he ended up writing a melodramatic song about it, I suppose.
