Windows 10 started out well in terms of system resources required, but it evolved into the usual bloatware and kludge we all know so well.

True Judge but this laptop started life on W8.1 and got the free update to W10. I know I shouldn't be ungrateful for something that was free but....;)

That was how my cousin's AMD laptop went from tolerable to garbage. From 8.1 to the most recent version of Windows 10. A hot mess.

Why put W10 then? The older versions work just fine.

A lot of users have been "taken" by Microsoft simply on a premise of a "free upgrade". My cousin certainly was. Did it before even considering consulting me.

Me? I'm still on Windows 10 version 19043 and have no intention of advancing to the most recent version. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

In fairness I have managed to get W10 to run on some very old hardware as an upgrade install. One was powered by an ancient Intel Q6600 that I was given... that one is back on W7 for older software/games. I also tried it on an even older single core laptop. It ran but there were no drivers for the sound or graphics.
