Yes, teeth always move back to their prior position (especially in adulthood) if you don't put in your retainer every night. My mother is a dentist.

I wish I had listened about the retainer :( But I don’t have anyone to impress so I guess having braces wouldn’t matter.

I've forgotten about it too, for a while. Against mother's advice being my stubborn self I started wearing the old retainer again. It didn't fit in properly anymore and hurt, but after two weeks it fit again without trouble and my teeth moved back. I only had one rotated tooth though and some teeth stood a bit close together.

Don't try this though! :D
I strongly advice against it.
