  • So sorry to hear about your dog. I still get emotional about the death of my first dog many years ago. It is important to remember what a good life they had with us.
'91-93? So you were there in '92 (Dec) when I came down and spent the night in the dorm with a pair of summer interns from my job who went there. (Lost contact with them now). Since I got married the next year, that was my last trip down there until '05, and it was pretty much a very different place by then! I went primarily to see the MacArthur Mall; it was all blocks and blocks of flat parking when I was there, and I also saw the new Spartans stadium, and this on a dark quiet night during spring break; which I didn't realize. (Amtrak using the St Julian wye to turn reminds me of walking the track all the way over to Hampton Blvd to go to ODU, as we used their stadium back in the '80's, and the buses they used to transport students and players were packed).
So then I went back last year to see the Tide, and I cannot even recognize the campus! New dorms all the way back to Ballantine station almost, mini malls, new dining halls (the old one still looks the same, though).
No, I was always from NYC. I used to go down to an aunt in Cumberland county (45 miles west of Richmond) every five years, basically. We pretty much would only drive around that area when I was down there. One time I looked at the state map and saw all these cities down by the coast, and wondered what they were like. So I figured it would be nice to go to college in the area, because it's not too far from home, and was cheaper than a school I was looking at in Atlanta, where I had a cousin.

Once I got there, I just got homesick, I found it depressing (they were tearing everything down, and only recently building it back up), plus, NSU was filled with all these rough NYC'ers I thought I was getting away from! Now I was stuck in the dorm with them! I guess I should have gone further south after all). It was rough, and being depressed, I flunked out in two years, and came back home and just started working, and it was a slow climb to where I am now.
Oh, Norfolk! Went to NSU '84-86. Went down last year to see the new Tide. Now, the area is in my interest again, because I just found out about the new Amtrak service you're getting this year. Did you know about that? (Typical for Aspies; I'm a rail buff).
