I read the Haunting of Hill House when I was 10, the Reader's Digest condensed version. My aunt gave us a bunch of old books and she liked R.D. condensed.....so, that was how I happened to read it.

Condensed? It's a pretty short book... I don't know why it would have to be shortened.

It was what Reader's Digest did apparently. There were several books in each compact volume. I had trouble reading Little Women, full version, but the R.D.'s Haunting of Hill House was easy.

Did you like it? If so, I would suggest reading the full version. As for Little Women... I've always thought it sounded a little sappy.

I didn't understand that when Beth was "well" it meant she was dead. Alcott had some elements of satire in her story, that often go un-unoticed.
