My family members can tell you that I did not like to wear clothes as a kid, I was heavily obsessed with animals, and I screamed for no reason, I also chewed my nails, and sucked my thumb...and still do at 32.
Up until 4th grade I believed that I was part dog, growling at and chasing children I wanted to play with me. I remember feeling like everyone hated and wanted to torture me; like, if they brought me out in the bright sun without sunglasses.
I was bullied by family members as being annoying, and bullied in general in school until 6th grade. I was unorganized in general as a kid, but obsessively spent hours organizing my tapes, books, and dollhouse furniture. I spent a lot of time in my mind and with animals.
Although I had friends, I felt like a chameleon, just being whoever they were to get by. I wandered often, but my parents never cared. I always wound up going to water, watching it for hours. I used to walk barefoot down the center of the street and talk to the moon, I had a very strong connection to the moon spirit.
I often changed the spelling of my name, changed nicknames, but have never felt like any of them was me. I do not even like to hear my name, it gives me a strange feeling that I don't like.
In 7th grade I was on a 13th level English (1st year college level), but a 4th grade math because I avoided learning my times tables.
As a teen I was angry, very very angry, I fought a lot, and got by by being the tough girl. At 16 the principal told me drop out, so I did.
I do not, and have never drove. I am 32, and until my daughter was diagnosed for my same behaviors as having Asperger's, I had no idea I was an Aspie. I took the online test and scored a 33, I then sent it to 15 or so of my facebook friends, no one else scored high. I took several other tests and they all came up Aspie. I always knew I felt different, now I KNOW that I am, and it feels good.
