Background
I'm unsure if this is the right place for me. But, I've pretty much been the socially awkward kid since I was nine and never considered having Asperger's until recently in my late 20s. Honestly,I was always just assumed as being quiet and hearing that I will grow out of it. Then my college and grad school studies involved constant remarks from professors about 'needing to speak in class discussions'-- despite always making high marks on my assignments.

Throughout my teens to 20s, I've always connected better with people 10-20 years older than me rather than my own age group. I was basically that one 23-year-old who hung around the 30 to 50-year-olds. Regardless, most of my connections have never lasted longer than 6 months. A part of it is due to me moving around many times in my life; The rest due to always being perceived as an acquaintance rather than a close friend and getting overwhelmed by keeping up with others.

The older I get, the less I've cared though. The fact that I've lived alone overseas in Asia and the Middle East without much loneliness/anxiety kind of emphasizes that as well, I guess.
