Urban Heat Island Indexes

Hi. I'm working on a project related to urban heat island indexes. Any recommendations as to what I could program to improve the efficiency of my model?

What the program does is it analyzes images to observe various factors such as temperature in various spots, where there are building, water, land, cloud, and probably other factors. The images are from a big, urban area.

Turns out my group needs data specific to NYC.
If you are able to find things that might be useful offhand, that could be most helpful.
Thank you!!

I found a couple of different resources for you, they're a little more generalised than the map of Melbourne I linked to but should give you somewhere to start. The first is the results of a study commissioned by the New York City Council, the second is from one of the US Government science agencies.
