Social media addiction.

Metalhead

Video game and movie addict.
V.I.P Member
Yeah, I am hooked. I need to break the hell away for a while. I need an Internet detox. I don’t want to abandon this community which has been helpful, but I do need to ditch the Facebook, the gaming forums, the x rated boards, it all is an epic timesink and I end up accomplishing nothing.

I am buying an alarm clock so my phone will not be by my bed at night.

And I am putting my laptop in my closet for the time being, only pulling it out when I need to work from home.

Social media is insidious.

Yeah, that's a time sink.

Honestly, I do the same with forums, discord, and occasionally, reddit. I need to quit as well. Most of my daily activities involve using computers so I can't really throw mine into a closet (without a complete lifestyle-overhaul), but I definitely lose precious time by posting stuff that doesn't have as much value as I like to think.

I understand completely.
But it's been great to see your journey and you found your freedom. Another success story.

It seems to be a modern addiction, just like any addiction.
I never felt it and I'm glad.
Beside the forum here, I have no social media.
I used to do Facebook, but it does take a lot of time.
Wasted time is one way it could have a negative effect.

Another is people tend to get involved in a group mentality.
They find some group that seems to see things their way and join in.
Then it grows and no matter how illogical the posts and replies may be
they keep up with it, because now it is their group.

It's like mass hysteria or hypnosis.

I don't even have a smartphone. Don't want one either.
I use the phone only for business or a few texting needs.
One small phone is enough.
I would miss the PC because I'm always using it to look things up, study,
order only what I need and know about from Amazon.
Use the Prime video that comes free with it sometimes and watch You Tube.
Other than that, I'm very low tech.

indeed - could not agree more - there is more to life than the internet. Heck there are real people out there!

Like anything in life, balance is key. I often temporarily step back from social media in order maintain a healthy one. And man is it refreshing. I don't think I'd ever quit for good, but I've built in mental filters now so I know my own personal limits and triggers. I've learned quite a lot on social media so I don't completely discount it as a learning tool. Key is knowing how to decipher all the BS.

I learn a lot from your posts.

Just find something else you'd rather do instead. Gotta fill the empty time with something. The big problem is when that something spills over to when you ought to be doing something else.

What negative effects is it having on you?
Addiction to hentai can’t possibly be a good thing.

True. The idea is to get out more as too much time in my house feeds my depression.

Losing sleep when I need to go to work the next day is not worth it. The Internet can be an empty void of cheap thrills.

I understand that in Japan they have forest therapy, which is spending time in nature.

I will sometimes touch a tree and let it speak to me, trying to hear the wisdom of another species.

So it's causing you to lose sleep and limiting your time spent outside, both of which fuel your depression. Is hentai pornography? I'm scared to google it, but that's what I seem to remember.

Hentai is anime porn. And it fuels my depression.
