Ridiculous aspie trait I have

Well-Known Member
Aspies supposedly take phrases literal or have difficulty with idioms. But not all aspies have this difficulty and I am the mildest aspie there is on earth and I have this classic trait. It's so ridiculous.

At least I never took "Take a seat" literal or "I'm on the phone" "On TV" "Just a minute" "Just a sec" "It's okay" and sometimes I have no problem with phrases because I figure what someone meant by it. Sometimes my brain decides to work right.

Isn't this a clone from a thread on ZOMG Aspies? I recall reading it lol.
I don't take things that literally. With things which are more implicit as opposed to being sarcastic, then that's where I'll have problems.
EMZ=]

"Take a seat"

Imagine if an Aspie took that literally. They would lift the seat and walk off. :D

I don't take things that literally and can usually detect sarcasm by the tone of their voice. Detecting sarcasm in text is a challenge for everyone though.

Sometimes I'll take a phrase literally if I've never heard it before. Generally I've learnt to second guess and if I get confused by what someone is saying then I'll ask for a more specific explanation.

This still gets me sometimes, even when I'm sure there's no idioms left that I don't understand someone comes along and confuses me XD. I tend to look at people blankly and wait for them to try and explain XD

Yes, I wasn't going to type it again.
