PlayStation 2 and Vice City. Tips?

Rocco

I hope something good happens to you today

I have been playing the original vice city on ps2 recently, and for the first time I’m trying it without using any cheats. It’s kind of fun and a different challenge to actually play through without using codes to escape the police or for weapons.
I’ve been trying to build up money to buy the club (so I can generate for income in the game).
Using the bus to collect passenger fares is fun and harmless. Any tips on earning money or getting further along?
Also I’m having extreme difficulty passing the RC helicopter mission. In 20 years I never beat this particular mission.

Ahh blowing up the building at the construction yard? Practice, you'll get there. Or read some guides or watch videos for tips on that mission.

As for money. Try taxi and pizza boy. Find the hidden packages. Or just kill NPCs. I believe certain types are likely to carry more money. I'd suggest persisting with the RC mission though. As mission cash rewards are good.

The seaplane porno poster dumping mission is MUCH worse than the RV helicopter mission.

Ahh this takes me back!

If I remember correctly, there is a multistory parking lot just to the west of the Ocean View Hotel, next to a clothing store. On the top floor, there is a particular car you can enter and this starts a challenge called "Cone Crazy" where you have to drive through checkpoints as fast as possible without breaking any of the traffic cones. It can earn quite a bit of money quickly with practice.

Also, some stores can be robbed by simply aiming at the cashier. The longer you aim at them, the more cash they drop, but also the higher your wanted level goes.

I never knew about the cashiers! I’ll have to try that one.
I haven’t been able to complete the cone crazy mission, but I did just run wild in the mall attacking gang members there with a golf club, with that you can simultaneously take out whole groups at once, and rake in the cash. That and helping cops catch runners built up several thousands already.

Brave.

I don't think I've ever played a single GTA game without just sandboxing and messing with the AI :D

I got 4 stars on Saturday and just ran around the city for about 15 minutes until I found enough star icons to reset back to zero. Playing without cheats is really fun and challenging in its own way. I learned changing clothes will erase two stars but has no effect of 3 star wanted levels.

I have also been trying to find all the hidden packages on the right island and this helped me find hidden weapons too. Up to 27 hidden packages now :)
