Plastic Lace

I don't know if any of you ever messed with any of this stuff but it has many names. Craft Lace, RexLace, Boondoggle, Gimp. I had messed with it when i was a kid. a few years ago i came across some of the stuff that i somehow managed to hold on to through the years and decided to see if i remembered how to make stuff with it. it kinda snowballed. I will post a picture of a simple key chain made with it (that most kids would have done) and then some of my favorite complex ones i designed myself.

basic square and circle:

WOW

I've never done anything like that, I never saw any kids making even the basic ones either when I was growing up. It must be like platting or weaving huh

lol yea you basically weave them together. the basic stitch takes two strands. as you add more strands, the harder it gets. many of the designs i make i found on a website. after i did some of those, i started having ideas for designs of my own.

Like many kids, I learned how to make keychains like that while at summer camp. I had no idea that so many designs were possible, or that they could be so complex! It's pretty cool.

lol I didn't know the designs were possible either till I decided to give them a shot anyway. the website i found some designs on, one guy shared a design that he did, building an Eiffel Tower. it was extremely complex. I wouldn't even know how to begin making something like that.

It looks like bead work at first blush! We did some boondoggling at summer camp too. The texture of the plastic freaked me out a little but I used similar techniques with embroidery floss to make friendship bracelets. My son became quite good at boondoggle & friendship bracelets. You really can do a lot with this stuff if you're creative & have the patience

yea you can do all kinds of stuff with this. this has sort of become one of my mindless things i need to do with my hands now. it doesn't drive my mom crazy like other things i would do like taping my fingers or something.

a few more of my favorite designs.

these three are actually made with hollow plastic lacing.

I like the little green snake guy! With this, at least you have something cute you made in the end. finger tapping produces nothing.

lol yes, very true. all finger taping does is drive people crazy. making these i get tons of comments on them since i have most of them hanging on my purse LOL

i love the snake :D i'm just sad his tongue broke off lol next one i make i'm going to try to make it larger. i have seen pictures of ones bigger then the one i made.

i never thought those little things (known here for a while as scoobies) could be made into things like that :) do you make/create anything else? i'm trying to see what others on here make if anything

do you mean like other designs? i have quite a few designs i make. other then making these i don't really make anything else. i do sew but haven't in a while because my sewing machine has been locked in a storage room that i can't get into and i can't afford the fabric to make things with. also the sewing machine needs to be cleaned or fixed. all of the key chains i have made i have posted on my Facebook page (if i'm allowed to post a link to it)

could always try posting it and see if the mods kick up a fuss, or if there are any mods out there can we get a ruling on this ?!
