Pica? (Does anyone chew or eat un-eddible substances)

Well I heard this pika thing mentioned on young autistic and stagestruck , it was how some autistic people chew or eat un-edible things.

-----

I tend to chew rubber. I eat away the rubber parts on the sky remote and i chew my phone cover and other things that I shouldnt.

-----

I was wondering if anyone on here eats or chews anything they shouldnt realy eat or chew?

When I was younger I would have chewed things like pencils, pens and stuff like that. I think I may have chewed a Sky remote too out of boredom but can't be sure. I know I chewed a Frisbee once.

I was about to make a post about how I actually don't chew stuff that much.
But then I noticed I'm actually chewing my headphone wire(yeah, I know that it's dangerous, I'm addicted :'()...
So... yeah... XD...
EMZ=P

I definitely chew on things that aren't food, but I typically don't swallow them (I can't remember ever swallowing anything non-nutritive since kindergarten when I ate the colored craft paper--and that was only one time).

However, I do have a friend with very severe ADHD, and when he doesn't take his medication, he chews AND eats non-nutritives. I watched him eat a plastic spoon and a plastic handle to a bucket of ice cream. He says that when he has his meds, he still chews, but he mostly spits it out. I can see about asking him more if you like.

Pencils, Pen caps, rubber (usually those rubber ends glued on the bottoms of things. I also put random things in my mouth almost unconsciously: screws, headphone wires, other things I'm forgetting...

It's really embarassing to be saying this, honestly.

Never really eaten anything non-food... not since I was a kid anyway. But I have had a life time of oral fixation thus far. When I was in early school, a common complaint(amongst others) from my teachers was that I was very tactile and that I would chew on things; pencils, pens, erasers, my fingers, etc. It was both a nervous and a bored habit... most of the time I didn't realize I was doing it.

I still chew on similar things to this day. There really is no limit about what I will put in my mouth, but I have gotten good at not chewing others' writing utensils. People don't appreciate that very much. :p

Edit: yay, no longer a "Newbie"! :D

I have a jacket that is missing a large section of the sleeve cuff, because I always chew on it when I wear it, lol.

That's the phrase I was looking for! "Oral fixation"! It's been bugging me since I posted in this thread. :/

yes I did.. rubbery things, paper.. also my sleeves, which eventually lead into a trend of chewing out holes near my hands, so could wear the ends like mittens :) im very orally fixated, love food, tastes, smells..

I am constantly biting my nails off at the end, it keeps them short so I rarely have to go through the trouble of cutting them with scissors or nail-cutters.
