Need help with diagnosis

Jing

New Member
Hi I am new here, I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety but I have never quite felt like depression and anxiety fit me if that makes sense ? I've been reading about Asperger's recently and it's starting to sound more like it fits than just depression and anxiety. I did this online test but I'm not sure if it is an accurate way to test? I agree to every question and I have felt like it pretty much my whole life, Aspergers Test - Do I Have Aspergers Syndrome? I am going to make a doctor's appointment to talk to them about it but they never really listen much I'm sure they will just say it's anxiety and dismiss Asperger's. If anyone has any information that could help with diagnosis that would be appreciated.

welcome in which country do you live ?I don't know if the system is the same in every country but I was referred by GP to a psychologist who specialises in autism ,I know in the USA it can vary and in France there don't appear to be diagnosticians for high functioning autism of adults.

Hi I am from the UK I may be able to get sent to a psychologist but would probably take a long time, would you be able to give me some information about Asperger's?

go to your GP this week I'm in the UK I waited 7 months to be diagnosed The official time is supposed to be three but that doesn't think that happened it could be anything from six months to 2 years .
Aspergers syndrome is not used anymore it will depend on your diagnosis but probably high functioning autism how much do you know about autism if you were diagnosed with it it's now called autism spectrum disorder as no one person is exactly the same and there are what's called co morbidities allergies ,hypermobility syndrome ,eczema ,sometimes but not often epilepsy , heart problems ,irritable bowel syndrome-The problem is they really need to see you as you are there are other disorders that are very close to autism .
I can't diagnose you ,they need to know about your early childhood, they like to see school reports and someone who knew you in your early childhood 2 to 4 years of age.
it also makes a difference if you're male or female,I was evaluated for an hour and a half ,some people are evaluated for a couple of days.
depends on the person you see .

Ok, thanks .. I suffered with eczema from young age .. and ibs .. and allergies .. I will go to my GP thanks

I don't know how things with insurance work in the UK, but I went straight to a neuropsychologist instead of going to my GP. Some insurances require that you get a referral from a doctor first. I'm 29 and just got diagnosed this year, so this is pretty current information.

I assume Jing will be going through the NHS so no need for insurance.

When I went to the GP for a referal I wrote down every 'symptom' I recognised in myself to make sure I didn't forget anything. Here's the NHS info page on adult diangosis: Autism diagnosis for adults - Live Well - NHS Choices
