Listing Your Obsessions

So, we all have obsessions right? Who's up for trying to list their obsessions through their life in as close to chronological order as possible? My obsessions typically last anywhere from a few days to years, but I'll be as accurate as possible.

Noddy & Thomas the Tank Engine games in DOS mode. :D
Swimming (Lasting 5-10 years)
Piano (On and off right up until now)
Hornby Train Sets
K'nex/Lego
Pokémon
Quad Bikes
Bikes

Coding
Photoshop
In Flames (Band, led onto other music related obsessions)
Willow (Lifelong obsession. ;) )
Guitar
Counterstrike
Paintballing
World of Warcraft
Recording and home studio type situations.
Money
Driving
Bones
Forums
Super Mario Cart Wii...
Ford Fiesta ZS mk 6's
Scarborough/Arcades
Astra Vans...
Ford Mondeo mk3's
Fork lift trucks
eBay

...which brings us up to now, I think. :D I'm sure I've missed stuff off the list, but trying to go through 17 years of memory in order by month is hard, okay?! :)

So lets hear yours... :p

Here are mine:

Laptops
Phones (yes, iPhones)
My girlfriend
Forums
Dynasty Warriors (I knew I would mention it somewhere)
Gunz: The Duel
Ubuntu
Brown eyes

I have more but can't seem to think of it as its still pretty early for me.

Hmm... I wonder what the most obsessions anyones had at any one time is. Lol. Can't be more than 2-3 I guess otherwise they'd just be common interests.

Oh dear, here we go. No I'm not going to put them in chronological order, I detest chronology (mainly because I'm bad at it). I'll just differ between the ones I still obsess about and the ones I don't anymore. And a lot of previous ones are still interests in a way. I often have a lot at the same time, switching between them at intervals. Current mains are bolded.

Previous:
Giraffes
Stunt Skating (not skateboarding)
Beatboxing (still kind of do it, but it's not an obsession)
Insects
Secret of Mana (old SNES game, great game)
Diablo 2 (still going back from time to time...)
Trees (and climbing them)
Death (ergh...suicidal times)
Acting and theatre (actually did some plays, once even as the main character)
Pokémon
Capoeira
Breakdancing
Pantomime
Fighting sports like Jiu jutsu and Kobudo.
Miniature painting and sculpting
Tabletop wargaming (though this one's sloowly coming back)
Reproductive system
Kinetics
Trigonometry
Architecture
Mayan culture
Celtic culture
Weight lifting
Story writing and writing theory
Animation and storyboarding
Poetry (actual poetry, not the silly prose and rhymes people usually make)
Cleaning (don't ask)

Current:
Internet (curse you!)
Monsters and demons
Reading any fantasy novel I can find
Art theory
Philosophy
Drawing
Adobe Photoshop
Computer Graphics programming(2d and 3d)
Psychology concerning perception and interaction (social and with systems)
Video Games (playing them and design, mostly design)
Human anatomy. (esp. the muscular system)
Phonetics (any foreign language)
English language
Walking
Singing
Guitar playing
Musical composition (though not all serious)
Women
Cooking

There, I think I've covered everything, but I can't be sure.

@Mad: ooooooo you have really interesting obsessions. you got yourself good karma from me. :)

Wow, at 32 this is an interesting challenge ;) There is some overlap, strict chronology is impossible.

Digging holes
dismembering daddy long legs
dismantling electrical devices
wildlife (still a big one)
Star Wars (still an on and off obsession)
playing with electricity
drawing (long-term obsession)
Jet-Set Willy (ZX Spectrum game)
dinosaurs
cheap plastic soldiers
He-Man
Transformers
the Army and weapons
painting
horror
body-building (abandoned due to collapsed lung)
reading (horror, fantasy, sci-fi and various non-fiction subjects)
writing (still a major obsession, but on and off)
poetry (nothing modern)
music
guitar (picked this one up again a few years ago)
the occult
morbidity/death/suicide (mid-teens lol, although still interests me)
alcohol
sex (very short-lived obsession due to lack of availability ;))
Vikings
Celts
Ancient Britains (Celts were European, no relation to the early Britains)
anthropology
ancient weapons
unusual musical instruments (got a tumbi this very day :))
making instruments and related do-dads.

Books are my primary obsession though, ever since early teens. Love the things, the look and feel of them, the smell of them. A book is a perfect thing; these crappy e-book devices will never catch on :p

Alright, here goes. I'm going to have to edit and add because I often forget then remember. Also, it should be noted that ages are approximate, and obsessions within an age group are not necessarily in chronological order. I listed according to age range because of the overlap of obsessions. You'll see that some obsessions carried on from one age range to the next, and some are related from one age group the the next.

Early Childhood (under 5 years)
Sesame Street
The Wizard of Oz (after watching it over and over, I would put myself to sleep by saying the lines of the movie)

The Super Mario Brothers
The Victorian age (in America)
"Kelly" dolls (the toddler version of Barbie)

I guess I'm pretty boring, I've only had a few obsession in my lifetime.First was animals, especially reptiles and particularly turtles. That lasted until I was about 11 or so. I was also really into rocks and minerals at that time, there was always two or three books at the school library you could never check out because I probably had them. Not sure when I started getting into computers, but it was probably when I got my first one around age 13 or so... prior to then, I had access to computers elsewhere, like relatives houses or at school. I remember using Netscape Navigator on windows 95 on dialup in 3rd grade. I know computers have played a large part in my obsession with astronomy too. All the information is out there, you just have to search for it. The computer really is a strong rally point for a majority of my interests/obsessions. Also, I have always been one to take things a part to better understand it. Been doing that since I was a kid. :D

It's funny that many of us have shared the same obsessions. This is definitely out of order and I'm sure I'm missing some as well...

Are we sure these massive lists aren't mere "interests" or "hobbies"? Idk, I just don't see how that many obsessions can possibly be balanced...

You're funny. Yes, most of them are. You have to think on a scale of an entire life. Many of them have been fleeting and have passed as quickly as they came, but were obsessions nonetheless. As I've been told before, most of us with AS obsessions just remember facts about things and obsess about that aspect as opposed to really having a true appreciation for whatever it is (aka, interest or hobby). For example, as a child, I was obsessed with clouds and weather for a short time. All I cared about were the names of different types of clouds, etc. but I really had no appreciation for it as a whole. I could just recite tons of facts. See what I'm saying? Now some of the obsessions I had as a young adult did grow into interests, such as programming and repairing computers, because that is now what I study for school and do for a living. I can't say that anything else on that list turned into an actual interest or hobby. But we're all different. I'm sure some with AS focus on fewer things for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, I would grow bored quickly and move onto something else. Also, some other things like walking or photography were obsessions at one point but turned into soothing activities for me that help me calm down or deal with certain things... I guess you could say fade into my world. I don't focus on photography anymore but walking or pacing is something I've always done as a comfort. :)

Yeah, for some reason, when I reposted in here, I was thinking it was asking about current obsessions. Whoops. :innocent:

But yeah, I know what you mean. I just can't remember most of the short term ones I've had. I've always been one that likes to learn useful things(and some things that are just plain random), so they all just sort of blend together for me... only the long-term ones/current ones stick. I do recall some shorter term ones though, like coins, yo-yos, knives/swords, etc.

I honestly can't recall ever having just a hobby/interest; I obsess over everything. I used to be able to identify different book publishers just by smelling the books, until a girlfriend told me I was embarrassing her in Waterstones :D Similar thing with my music: I learn everything I can about an instrument as well as learning to play it.

I've listed quite a few in the other thread, but the more I think of it the more I remember! It's addicting. I feel I have to remember every single one
