Japanese man celebrates six years with cartoon bride

If you thought romance was dead, think again. According to a report by the South Morning China Post, a Japanese man who married a fictional cartoon pop singer Hatsune Miku in 2018 is still happily married and celebrated their sixth anniversary on November 4.

Miku is a life-size doll sporting long turquoise twin ponytails and comes with a synthesised singing voice. Akihiko Kondo, 41, identifies as 'fictosexual', a term describing people who are romantically attracted to fictional characters. Kondo married Miku six years ago and shared an image on Instagram of the cake he bought for their anniversary. The message reads, "I like Miku very much. Happy six-year anniversary".

Kondo told the Japanese news outlet The Mainichi Shimbun that he had been romantically interested in women before secondary school. According to Kondo, he confessed his love seven times, but was rejected on each occasion. In addition, he recalled he was laughed at and bullied for being an otaku - a person obsessed with anime and manga.

Staying true to his image of having an obsession with animated characters, Kondo says he fell in love with Miku in 2007 soon after the character was released. Upon being bullied at work, Miku took an extended sick leave and was diagnosed with adjustment disorder. As per the publication, Kondo notes that Miku's healing voice helped him reconnect with society and saved his life.

To make his love for Miku official, Kondo proposed through a hologram device using artificial intelligence. When Miku said yes, Kondo held a wedding ceremony in a Tokyo chapel, setting him back 2 million yen (US$13,000). As a sign of his burgeoning love, Kondo had a life-size doll of Miku made in 2019.

Kondo's unorthodox orientation is a rising trend. A 2017 survey conducted by the Japanese Association for Sex Education shows that more than 10 per cent of students across schools and universities reported themselves to have had romantic feelings for fictional characters.

Why do I have the feeling this guy is a Reddit moderator?

What does he do when it gets dirty? Hang her upside down on the clothesline and take the pressure washer to her?

And you know, plastic toys, as they get old and washed repeatedly, start really reeking of mildew. Anyone who had Barbies or action figures in the bathtub or left out in the yard during a rainstorm would know this.

If you shake her really hard, can you hear those few drops of water permanently stuck inside the leg joints, rattling around, like all dolls get when you wash them?

Does her hair stand straight up like an old Barbie?

Does he have to draw on a new face as the ink fades to a mottled gray from taking her out in the summer sun?

Does he ever get bored and turn her head around backwards?

If her head ever popped off, did he shove it back on, like kids do with their Barbie or action figure heads?

Does this doll now have no neck, like a bodybuilder, from shoving the head back on?

Are there little permanent bite marks in the hands and feet from where his cat gnawed on it?

Y'all know what i'm talking about.

I need to find a picture of a lamp post with a pair of briefs hanging on them!
Brief flings...haha.

This guy, right?

I can see where this is going to be a thing in the future, for men and women. Within a 5-10 years, humanoid robots will be commonplace as in-home assistants, elderly companions, etc. I think many children have thought or are thinking about what it might be like to have their very own robot friend. Of course, there are those that see the potential for sex bots. It's already in the works with non-animated sex dolls, so this is no stretch of the imagination. A strange new world ahead.

Some may see intelligence as intelligence, artificial or biological, and may not separate the two like some others would. I can see human and non-biological life partnering as a very real conclusion in the not-so-distant future.

There would be a lot more rationality involved with an AI friend...
Assuming it was "programmed" that way. 🤖

You think that's weird, I remember reading about a guy who is in a relationship with a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo. Of all the cars he could have been involved with, he chose a `98 Monte Carlo. It boggles the mind.

And I heard of a woman who married the Berlin Wall. Her surname is Eklöf-Berliner-Mauer. Berliner Mauer means Berlin Wall. She took the walls name. So anything is possible. 🤔

That's one of the results of a non-fictional generator I made back in 2017.

I remember reading a strange article many years ago about a man who 'made love' to the exhaust pipe of his car. Your post reminded me of that.
