Hello, I Am New Here.

Researching Asperger's syndrome on behalf of a friend, I recognised myself in most of the traits. I have since watched a plethora of YT videos, both from people with Asperger's & mental health professionals. I also scored a 33 on the AQ test
I am 43 years old & going thru a lot of mixed emotions, particularly pertaining to the bullying I suffered as a child/adolescent & wondering how things could have been easier, had I been diagnosed. My uncle was a textbook aspie & nobody knew a thing about the condition when he was a child.
I am here for support & to share expenses.

i’ve talked to people in their 20s and just over they just said it helped a little bit to get remedial education but! as autism is developmental it is never going to change, it’s not psychiatric ,it can’t be cured,You can be taught routines or thought processes but you are still Neuro diverse in your brain. of the people I talked to they didn’t feel a lot more secure , it may help you feel more secure but it won’t make you neurotypical.

Hi Dragonsblood! Welcome to the forums!
I'm very similar to all of what you described.
I still struggle with the memories of bullying.. It makes me a rather more cynical person than when I was a kid.
Anyways, you've found a great place for sharing experiences and support! :D

Hi and welcome, I hope that you enjoy it here. Yes in some ways I would have liked to know sooner, but on the other hand, I might have tried less hard or felt discouraged or less confident. But I didn't know, and I like that idea of "loving what is", so I tend to accept that I didn't know and now I do, that's how it is. And you have now realised this about yourself, and here you are. Enjoy!

I don't know if I have learned to mask but I know I no longer do many of the things that got me bullied as a child. I still avoid socoslising because I don't want to impose on people. As a child, I would talk my head off & not realise I was boring other people. Now, if I get even a hint that someone is bored, I will shut up & probably not bother with that person again. Socialising, to me, has way too many rules, which require fakeness on my part. And what's the pay off? I don't see 1.

Hi Dragonsgblood, Welcome to the Forum...its a welcoming place to share your experiences and if you ramble on and regret your post you can delete it. Regarding: had I been diagnosed sooner," I think sometimes I might have sidestepped some of the bullying and rejection had I known sooner, yet I wonder if thats wishful thinking. Although Im left with some, well a lot, of self-doubt I believe having to figure things out for myself forced my independence and sense of agency, to me thats a good thing.
