Hi Kevin. I'm 49 and self-diagnosed only a few months ago, many of us here have found out later in life. Many of us have similar problems to those you describe. I hope you will find this site to be helpful and friendly, I certainly have. Welcome.

hi aquariuskevin welcome to AC!
i think the problem isnt the autism per se-its that you werent diagnosed early enough in order for people to adapt around your thinking and needs, however at the same time if you were diagnosed as a child you probably wouldnt have been allowed in the royal air force,if you enjoyed it that would have been a big mistake for you.

alot of autistic people are suited to working as support staff, i have moderate classic autism and mild learning disability and have had many autistic support staff, only one wasnt suited to it,he thought quite negatively and stereotypical of more lower functioning autistics like me.
i think if you are caring and you dont mind the lower pay,you should work with autistics in care, youve a lot to give, you know what its like and can relate to your service users and make their lives better.

I don't think it's a coincidence that you were in the RAF if you have High Flying Autism! ;)

Welcome to the party!
