Do you have any disorders that are linked with Asperger's Syndrome?

There is a list of disorders that are associated with asperger's and people with asperger's have a better chance of having it, such as tourette syndrome,OCD, depression disorders, anxiety disorders. Like me, i have tourette syndrome and an anxiety disorder? tell me your story with this thread! :D

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

How about ADD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Chronic Depressive Disorder? These things really do go together. When it rains it pours, I guess.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

i have one other disorder but it is not linked with aspergers ... i have fetal alcohol syndrome

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

Supposedly, anxiety but not enough to get any help with it. That's definitely a social problem rather than an innate one. I'd cope with the 'anxiety' itself if people didn't have a go at me about it & use it against me in so many other things & ways.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I am currently diagnosed with Atypical Autism, ADHD and ODD.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

you don't really look like you have Fetal alcohol syndrome, depending on the facial features.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (officially), sleeping problems (likely to be Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome) and possibly "light depression". I also get some anxiety in certain social situations but haven't been diagnosed with any anxiety disorder.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I've strong OCD-like traits which is either OCD or just OCD-like symptoms that come with my ASD - not sure. I also experience strong social anxiety around others (i.e. I've social anxiety).

I would have never guessed. I don't know much about FAS, but I used to know a guy who had it.

It's bold of you to admit to having it. I'm rather proud of you. I can't even admit to having an ASD to most people IRL anymore in fear that I'll get tormented for it . . .

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

Mild depression and an uneven skill profile, not sure that the latter could be classified as a disorder but testing as socially retarded with relatively average intelligence sucks.

My official 'extra features' are Tourette's and melancholic depression. I also experience a lot of anxiety, sleep problems and social phobia, but those are pretty much covered by the autism and depression I guess.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I could say depression is one of them, but I don't think it is. My other medical and some mental issues aren't linked with my Asperger's expect for the Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I have medical issues that have nothing to do with my Asperger's and I refuse to discuss them here. I just don't trust enough people on this forum or any forum (besides the RPG one), that I feel I can tell certain issues to.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 12, along with OCD but I don't have OCD anymore nor depression. I was diagnosed with anxiety too and it's gotten better over the years. I also have learning difficulties and I was diagnosed with ADD when I was about ten. I was also diagnosed with dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder before AS. Mom said I outgrew those two.

And I have other problems that aren't linked to my AS and that is eating disorder which I got over but basically still have it due to my thinking about food and diet. I got diagnosed with anorexia in 2007 but then decided against the label. Language processing disorder, I am unsure if that is linked to AS or not, same as cluttering I was diagnosed with as a kid.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I really think I might have some sort of anxiety disorder, or perhaps obsessive compulsive disorder. I have routines that I don't really like changed, and I tend to get anxiety at random times on occasion. They may just be aspie traits, or they may be something else. I'm not really sure.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I think my social anxiety is attributed to Asperger's/an ASD. Also maybe depression & problems with moods because I've read that some people on the spectrum have problems controlling their moods/tempers, etc.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I have dealt with depression for as long as I can remember. However, I found that exercise helps relieve the intensity of it. It is very manageable when I'm working out on a regular basis.

I go through cycles of having sleep issues. Sometimes, my mind simply won't stop...going back over events, conversations, concerns, etc.

There is something that seems to have gotten dramatically worse lately...if someone else is having another conversation in the same area, and I can hear them...I can't tune it out anymore. It completely messes up my line of thinking, and I get extremely annoyed. I have to do something in order to not have a meltdown over it (leave the area...stop talking-if I am-...put on music, watch tv etc)

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

When I was in my 20's I developed a form of epilepsy called temporal lobe. It causes "auras" but I don't lose consciousness. Anyway I haven't had one since about 1997. They don't know why the seizures started and they don't know why they stopped all of a sudden. I've heard that Aspergers and epilepsy could be linked but I haven't really read up on it enough to really say.

I also deal with depression and insomnia but I am not taking and will not take anything for those. I distrust medications that affect the mind because I had a bad experience with phenobarbital making me psychotic.

I don't know if this is linked with the Asperger's but I have vaginismus and vulvular vestodynia, which means that normal sexual intercourse and even pap smears are painful and difficult. There's a lot of ignorance out there about these two conditions which I have found are really more common than people realize, they are just not talked about. Vaginismus is an involuntary tightening of the vaginal walls and vulvular vestodynia is a very painful sore spot at the entrance to the vagina. There's a lot that's not understood about those conditions, either.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I've got epilepsy which is linked tp aspergers syndrome I also have mild OCD and sleeping problems the doctors dont know if they're my fits or they said it could be restless leg syndrome but they still dont know what it is. And i've got quite severe depression so bad that occasionally cut my wrists... but i dont do it as much as i used to which is good.
I've got a really low immune system which is linked to aspergers i think, and also had a tiny whole in my heart and a leaky valve it didnt close up till i was 16, but i dont think thats connected to aspergers.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I'm only guessing there is a link, but I'd say my allergies are more AS related to sensory issues as I'm on enough antihistamines to negate (at least normal) allergies. Also, I think my IBS could be related to either Gluten intolerance and or anxiety from AS issues. I often have strange conditions that remain undiagnosed by even specialists that seem to be autoimmune issues that could be AS related. I get a lot of "That's odd, I've never heard of that. Try ____ and come back if it doesn't clear up." I'll go several times and eventually just live with the issue(s) as no medical solution seems to work.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I actually have epilepsy too, I had four seizures when I was a teenager. I haven't had one in over ten years though, but I am taking medication for it.

Also, I doubt this has anything to do with me having AS, but I also had Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, which is a heart condition. I had surgery to correct it several years ago.

Re: Do you have any disorders that are linked with asperger's?

Asperger's syndrome has no effect on one's immune system.
