Diagnosed officially this year at age 51

Hello to everyone,

I was recently diagnosed at age 51. I was originally misdiagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder in 2003 and, while I do have some of its traits, I never thought it was the correct diagnosis. I thought Asperger's made so much more sense, so I consulted a specialist in Houston who specializes in diagnosing Asperger's in adults and she confirmed that it was Asperger's. While so many things make so much more sense to me now, I got severely depressed when I realized how much I had missed in life and how much more limited my choices in life are now. I'm better, but still struggling with the depression. Forums such as this one help tremendously, so I want to thank everyone upfront for posting their experiences.

hi coco3000,welcome to AC!
i hope you have a happy christmas,i know its very hard with severe depression as i have it to,watch some christmas tv or listen to some christmas music, play a good computer game, go for a walk, its a really hard time of the year,i hope someone has thought of you and got you a present.

My depression is much better now. Thanks for the advice. I've never really celebrate Xmas much as an adult. Don't know if it's an Aspie thing, but I'm not into holidays much at all. If I find a gift I think someone will really like, then I will get it no matter the time of year, but I don't like having to buy presents just because it's Xmas. I just don't like being on a schedule-LOL. Plus, I hate the crowds at this time of year. I try to avoid them. But I do like the sentiment behind it. It's nice of you to welcome me to the forum. Thank you..

Yes these attitudes are very Aspie. Chapter and verse.
