Botany?

I recently decided I should buy a houseplant or two because of the supposed health benefits. I was thinking of getting a peace lily.

Does that count as being interested in botany?

I think the word is funny! Does THAT count as being interested?

I like the idea of botany! Does TH-

I'll stop.

When I studied archaeology I had a few very interesting classes in archaeobotany. I still treasure my textbook from that subject.

'm wanting to go-to college while I have my g.i bill. I want to study botany, but I don't know how advanced I'd like to go. I'd like to start a farm/warehouse.

Yes, I love to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers. This morning I picked lettuce and radishes I grew in large containers for a salad tonight. Sugar snap peas are almost ready to produce, kale and turnip greens in full production, all kinds of peppers are growing, okra is starting to come up, and I have an unusual round yellow cucumber called lemon cucumber growing nicely. The blueberry bushes are covered with fruit not yet ripe, lots of plums, pears, peaches, figs, and Meyer lemons are forming. I have grown almost all my own herbs for years, most of them grow year round in containers. I love this time of year! I'm not hung up on organics but find that container gardening greatly reduces typical garden pests so it is really possible to avoid pesticides.

So, yes, you could say I'm interested in botany. I like to eat it.

Oh, also planted horseradish this year which can be harvested next spring. Can't wait to have roast beef with homemade horseradish sauce.

Did you all see they got solar panels in glass now. You can build a greenhouse outside and add extra lights from the panels.

I am an avid gardener, but I wouldn't call myself a botanist. I also know quite a bit about medicinal herbs and edible plants.

I have a garden and this year, I expanded it to vegetables that I haven't tried to grow before. I have (or will soon have) courgettes, onions, radishes, lettuce, beetroot, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans, carrots, parsnips, spinach. I also have goji berry bushes.

I've always liked gardening. Starting at age six on my Grandma's farm.
Always had a vegetable garden until I moved to Florida.
I love outdoor landscaping, know a lot of plant names and conditions needed to grow them.
I also like indoor or partly indoor plants. Having an enclosed pool area I have a lot of plants in containers.
Orchids, bromeliads and succulents are my favourites. It is Orchid blossom time right now.

I miss having houseplants! My son would just rip them out by the fist full and I gave all mine away. Now I have to fight to keep him out of any flowering vegetable in my garden... :p

Beautiful orchid! My friend in Florida puts orchids in her backyard trees like they grow in Mexico, and they are gorgeous.

I forgot what the definition of botany is. Isn't that the study of herbs and flowers and natural stuff like that?

And, if so. No. My family (Mom's side) has a history of killing off plants we try to take care of. If I ever did get a plant, I would want one that doesn't require so much watering.

THAT'S what I was going to get for Mother's day!!!!!!

I knew there was something good I planned on getting, gave up remembering, bought something else, and now this thread reminded me...

I was going to get her a plant...

Now I got some dumb pop-up card!

i'm interested specifically to try and help prevent extinction of wild species and extinction of pollinators
