bipolar diagnose

since the last time I was here , (I mean a few months ago), I've been diagnosed by my psychiatrist and my doctor as being "bipolar". I'm taking "Seroquel", mostly for sleep which works wonderfully so far. I didn't ask my psychiatrist about autism , not sure if am. I'm glad I came here to these forums anyway because I wouldn't have read about autism or looked for help outside of these forums if I hadn't learned so much from this site. I just want to ask anyone here if this is the best site to come to to talk about this or not. I would gratefully accept any advice and would appreciate any alternatives to this forum if it not exactly what I need to research further into. I'm not "lateundiagnosed any longer, maybe i should change that to "diagnosed".

I think this is a great place to talk about something like this. I've been diagnosed with Bipolar and take Lithium, Wellbutrin, and Risperdal for it.

hi, Fino, i took lithium when i was in my 20's for awhile. i remember it made me very sleepy, i asked my doctor not to prescribe that for me this time. i do take hydroxide when i need it. maybe ill ask my doctor about those other two you take later. i don't want to take anything else ,im afraid ill kill the "golden goose". I will research those medications for sure. when i was around 20 i think my "counselors" misdiagnosed me as "borderline schizophrenic" ,i did see a real psychiatrist that believed nothing was wrong with me at the time so all these years i lived with a lot of anxiety repressed. kind of gave up on seeing counselors, it just seemed like nobody believed me.

This sounds like good progress, and you are happy with your medication too. It could be that you also have high autistic traits or Aspergers too, you can see whether that seems to fit for you, and whether ideas and strategies around autism feel useful.

i feel like theres a good chance i have a mix of disorders .it took a lot for me to go the the doctor and admit i was very depressed. i was escorted by security to the emergency room and looked at by some other doctor because they were afraid i would hurt myself. i had to explain to them i would never do that, what a mess it ended up to that day.

You can certainly have autism and other diagnoses. It can help a lot to know. Can you find an autism center near you?

not many where i live. i used to work with kids with the same thing ,ironically, ("job corp" ) lots of kids have this disorder i found out. im not that extreme as some, i was able to "mask" it. cant do that anymore, its just too overwhelming for me.

I hope you are able to find peace whatever that may entail, either staying with your new meds or seeking an autism diagnosis. We're glad you're here. It sounds like you have had a hard time of it. Do you have support or family to help?

.im a loner and will always be. arent a lot of autistic people that way? ,it doesnt bother me in the least. its when im around others that bothers me. this forum doesnt bother me. that is completely different, im comfortable with it. ive got my meds, pretty much all i need. ive got hobbies that keep me occupied too. if i need help i can call my sister, shes always there for me.

Ive been diagnosed with bipolar too. I have been off medication since May because we couldn’t find a combination that worked well for me. So far so good ;)

meds are not for everyone. i went thru different kinds when i was younger and none of them had any effect. maybe the one im taking was not available then. something could be available later that isnt now. Seroquel, the one im taking now, worked the first time i ever tried it, yet they had to increase the dosage a month later. so far so good.
