I was in a specialty grocery store today and noticed that they have gotten in their stock of foods for the Passover Seder-they are in an area with a lot of Jews. On impulse I bought a box of Yehuda brand Passover matzos, they are made in Israel to VERY strict standards.
If anyone spends enough time on the internet one will come across people who believe all sorts of weird, anti-Jewish myths about Passover matzos. So I was curious about what it would be like to actually eat some.
They taste sort of, but not totally, like an unsalted, very plain saltine cracker. They are baked differently, however, so they are browned unlike a cracker. Also, care must be taken to make sure there is absolutely zero leavening taking place. If a matzo starts to "rise" the whole batch must be destroyed in a special fashion.
The rules surrounding the creation/baking of Passover matzos actually gives them a slightly different taste and texture than a plain saltine cracker. I found that I actually liked them, and ate about 4 or 5. If I hate a food I will stop eating it and throw it out, but if I like a food I will keep eating it.
For you Christians, it is widely believed by many bible scholars that the Last Supper was a seder, Jesus ate the sacred meal with his followers and then was captured by the Romans the next day.
