Autistic Man's Caretaker Shot by Police Officer

This disturbs me so much. Is being autistic becoming almost as much of a crime as being a black man in the United States?

Apparently so! I back all of the colors and having a badge doesn't make you God. There's an abundance of crooked cops in the world and noone says a word. Do they ever stand trial for murder? No! This not only disturbs me to my innermost core, it makes me distrust what police officers are sworn in to do...protect and serve. They're not protecting and serving anyone by aiming to kill rather than go for the kneecap and take them in and let righteous justice be done. This saddens me deeply about this man.

It's infuriating, and just utterly baffling, all around.

As a parent of a pre-teen Aspie male who gets overwhelmed and agitated when experiencing a perceived threat by authority, I worry for his safety in the future, as he gets bigger. He's already had one Aspie-related incident with local police (a school thing); thankfully the officers here in town are kind and well-trained and extremely patient (and the officer in charge has a teen with ASD), but down the road...? He's had lots of counseling to address specific potentially dangerous reactions, but under real duress, we can only hope some of the strategies will help him, should it ever come to that.
