Amnesia and romance

Can love be forgotten? If you and someone were in love and she got amnesia and didn't remember you, is the love gone?
Is the person you were in love with dead? and now someone with their face and mannerisms is here but doesn't like you any more?

What the hell is falling in love then? Just a memory that can be forgotten?

It's not so much that love was just a memory to e forgotten; it's more like the brain is an infinitely complex yet fragile organ that can readily suffer damage. Many amnesiacs have memories & the feelings attached to them return slowly over time with therapy, medication & as the brain repairs itself. Sometimes, the damage is so extensive that the person you loved is simply no longer that person: the man whose brain was severed by a length of metal rear survived but became a violent aggressive fearsome person completely different to the one he had been prior to the accident. Some brain damaged Alzheimer's (or other forms of dementia) patients cannot recognize their own spouse & children. When my grandmother was in the late stages, she couldn't recognize anyone whomsoever. Our entire lives are stored in the brain: if what we put in there is like software, the hardware stores it & permits us to read it & access it. Destroy or damage the hardware & it can no longer effectively process, access & read the software.
