  • Just had some random guy at the door wanting to buy the old Volvo for banger racing. ERM, NO.

They are getting rare. Many cars were a common sight once but now are on the endangered list. One example is the original UK Ford Sierra. There is only one base model known to survive. Salted roads are a killer for cars.

You have to clean the undercarriage monthly in states that use a lot of salt.

We're keeping it off the roads while they are salted. The new one isn't best suited to short journeys (doesn't get up to temperature) which didn't bother the old one. Such is progress.
Just found out where the xmas cake was hiding. It's utterly terrified. BWAHAHAHAHA!

I found some cake in the back of the fridge earlier. It's gone now, it was a massacre.

My dogs have discovered where their Christmas presents and stockings are. Now it's going to be the ultimate test of impulse control lol

Dog V4's presents are in sealed packets. They think this is good enough to hide but come Christmas day they shall be doomed!
Dentist was fun. Needed a filling and I hate needles. The only time it hurt was when he sprayed cold air on the tooth.

Your wisdom teeth actually erupted/came through the gum and show, as teeth?

Mine were not ever going to emerge. They were stuck under other teeth.
So I had all four out, one day.

Mine were causing problems and damaged one of my molars so they had to be extracted. My lower jaw has never quite recovered. I had to have a tooth filled, my first ever. It came out during COVID and I couldn't get a dentist so I filled it myself lol!

@tree , on my upper jaw they formed and came through but their opposite numbers in my lower jaw did not form. @MildredHubble , ouch!
Borrowed a log splitter. This is a fun thing on some of the really dried out logs! Made short work of the five lumps brought down so that's us sorted for a day or two.

Electric. It took me a couple of go's to learn what the limits were. If it's dry tomorrow I'll crack on with the remaining logs. I have no idea if there's going to be another cold snap so best to be prepared.

This year we have a new wood splitter.
    Splits wood in two.
Also has an attachment so the wood can be split into four sections.
Going to be cold again tonight. Keep warm everyone.

I have been throwing wood into the fireplace non stop for three straight days now, it's -20 here, really hoping this cold spell ends soon.

I took some precautions this morning. Filled the woodbasket and a wheelbarrow which is right outside the back door. The path is covered in ice patches.

Nope. It's a 1989 740 GLE 2.3 with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. If I believe what some sites say there are only 60 of this year/model left. This one is made more unusual by the fact it has ABS and Aircon. Both were options this year. Despite it's age it is known to be able to hit 37mpg on a run.

37mpg isn't bad at all. Best fuel economy car I ever had, and supposedly best ever from a petrol was a 1 litre Suzuki Celerio. Capable of over 70mpg with the Dual Jet version. I had the regular version and got a regular 60mpg+. My current car is a 1.2 petrol Hyundai i20, 2014 model. I get a constant 50-55mpg from that. My van fuel economy will be dire. I think I might remap it to get a bit better MPG.

Nice. Dad's old van once clocked 39.9mpg on the motorway while towing an empty plant trailer. Have a look and see if there is some kind of spoiler available for above the cab on your van. I see quite a few box vans with them fitted. No idea what it will do for fuel economy.

I find swim baths so unhygienic and I don´t go there. sweat, people who not shower before going to swim, many people who urinate into it...

    people are often like hoglets

I always wondered why I was the only one on the swimming lake who went into the bushes when he had to go to toilet (there was no normal toilet)...

Yes! I have become quite adept at thrifting things that people have no comprehension of the real value of.

The biggest howler I've seen made was on a car jack on Ebay. It was £50. I spent the next couple of days worrying that they would realise their error but no, it arrived. The error? One sold the week before for £500... this jack is actually from a 1930s Rolls Royce car toolkit.
    One very rotten windowsill....

the future is cheap electricity from renewable energy, maybe fusion reactors and hydrogen. everybody will maybe heat with cheap electricity then and not with gas, oil or WOOD :persevere: same goes for stinky cars.

If the wood isn't thoroughly dry you'll get smog. Most of ours sits in a shed sometimes for a couple of years. There's just a faint haze out the chimney.
