  • TIred of people asking why I walk everywhere. It's almost as if not using a car often is a personal affront or threat.

My advice is to tell them walking is cheaper than driving. No idea what response that will get!
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
    @maycontainthunder that's what I've been telling them--"gas is five dollars a gallon and y'all think I'm driving?"

Just keep an eye out for an old Schwinn mountain bike, then fix it up and use that. In some cities bicycling is common, I know it was in San Francisco in the mid 90s because transit was a joke, so people got around using bicycles and scooters.
If I could travel back in time: I'd find the guy who invented Muzak and do my level best to sabotage his work.

Elevator music. Generic term for radios, loudspeakers, etc. playing music & such in public places. The father of poor taste & the mother of sensory overload.

Sounds like a Cher song- if l could turn back time.
I hate Muzak in elevators. Plus it has subliminal messages in malls, buy, buy buy

Agree with both your posts here! :) Bit like billboards and what's on them, too...
It's tick season here, and I really do not like ticks.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
We get kangaroo ticks here which are small and don't actually seem to enjoy sucking on people. While I've had them on me they've never bitten - unlike the European ticks, or some of the ones in Eastern Australia. Even when I find them on the horses, they're usually not so keen to feed on them.

But what about The Tick? I do love him so.

What do you call a tick with anxiety disorder? ...a nervous tick...
I found a 62-year-old debate where William F. Buckley Jr. got his arse handed to him by his opponent...Delightful. I love old books.
Currently visiting the site where Ira Dutton was born. Dutton spent 45 yrs. Molokai leper colony helping the sick during the 1800s

But, part of the progress they chose, was preserving natural beauty and a quiet community-centered life

That's a bit like Denmark, Western Australia, where we originally wanted to buy a house. But then we saw a place with 50ha of intact ecosystem in the hinterland and the rest is history. The bit of the hinterland we are in is an enclave of Hicksville, with a few exceptions. But we "import" a lot of lovely farmstay guests.

I totally get why living in a community that shares many of your core values is a good thing to do. Makes life so much easier and more pleasant. More good relationships, less friction and less immediate reason for misanthropy, depression etc.
Am camping in the old sedan. Opera on radio & rain on the roof. Life is good.

    Sounds great! Enjoy! :)

That was a nice library you were in before! ...is nice library a tautology? Well, it was a particularly nice library! :)
Might not have any cellular service for awhile, so if I disappear that's what's up. Have to reply to some folks here. Otherwise all well
Odd night here. I want to talk to people but am not sure I have anything to say. Feel like I miss writing. Should do some study.

Listen for howling. It's a good night sleep tight song.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Hello! :) That doesn't stop most people from talking, hee hee. I like Wolfy's advice. Sleep is always excellent, in my book. Some people hate the idea of spending a third of their lives asleep - me, I really enjoy sleeping. Hope you have a great evening. I'm sure I owe you a PM but I've been backlogged...
Autism Forums is having another shortage of trolls--Thanks moderators.

ROFL you two! This character in a classic Dr Who had a human composting unit for really annoying visitors to his greenhouse...
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
@Callistemon if it acts quickly enough, I could think of a few test candidates to try it out with!
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
At 18:00 (in intercut bits and pieces) - a demonstration, but it goes wrong, because Dr Who is the target.

Somewhere earlier in the 6-parter are a couple of "successful" applications of the composting unit.

This will help with therapeutic fantasies. :)
Today's a great day to drive with all four windows down, and pick up some spare hand tools.

    80 degrees over there too?
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
Yep. Right warm weather. I got myself some heavy wrenches, about a three-foot prybar, a multimeter (electrical test box) and a mechanical carpet sweeper that works every bit as good as a vacuum-cleaner.
Do not ride antique bicycles. I have one and everywhere I park that thing it draws all the car nuts & motorcycle buffs.

Isn't it great though, that there's people who love that kind of thing! I think many people are getting tired of the uber-technical age and mass production, and just love and respect craftsmanship.

It's also nice in our throwaway society to see people honouring good "not on trend" machines etc, instead of "upgrading" and throwing out something that could be almost infinitely serviceable, with care and TLC! :)

And it can go deeper than the "thing" - it's often a shared philosophy.
    Jordy
    Jordy
Throwaway society is mostly caused by the plastic manufacturers, plastic can be extremely durable, more so than wood or leather, but they don't earn money with that so we get crappy and flimsy products.
I haven't been really posting all over the forum much lately--things are busy.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Of course you're busy! You're fitting up a tiny home. :) On top of all the other things on your to-do list. I hope you're not too stressed out by all this and managing to enjoy! (There's distress and eustress, apparently!)

It was fun interacting with you in the games while you were around, yesterday.
Bicycling is replacing the car for me and I think I like this better.

I bicycle everywhere because I'm from the Netherlands, but for me it's lost it's charm after doing it my entire life almost every day.
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
@phantom it's never about charm, it's about transportation--the absolute STATE of the tires on my car, the cost of gasoline, and the fact I would rather be a fit & independent cyclist than depend on motors for everything.

Would you like some emoji stickers to decorate the interior with? Hahaha. :)

How exciting. You'll be fine - our caravan friend lived 20 years in the bush and enjoyed it, when he finished a few decades of tuna fishing on his little boat and living in suburbia.

It's a space of your own from which you can't be evicted, even if you have to drive it somewhere else. That is stability and peace of mind. Plus you can save up on rent money and do useful things with that instead.

And you can make it just exactly how you want it!
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
Well, I gotta find a parking spot, but no matter what I do it'll be cheaper than renting. Off grid living here I come.
I am beginning to wonder whether ADHD might be comorbid with high functioning autism for me. Either that or I'm burned out. Cannot tell.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Brain fog, confusion, restlessness, hyperactivity can all be part of burnout. Depending on how bad it is, SSRIs can be helpful in some situations like this. They wind the stress response back a bit by stopping your brain from chewing up too much serotonin in response to the stress.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
Good for some people, as a supplementary thing to lifestyle management, when in particularly stressful periods in a life. I've got times where I go back on them, after initially trialling them as part of PTSD treatment. Was very wary of the idea at first; now I see it a bit like taking extra Vitamin E when I'm about to do something more strenuous physically than normal.
    Callistemon
    Callistemon
My doctor said she occasionally goes back on them so she can visit her mother-in-law once every couple of years without getting triggered by her poor behaviour. Sigh! I can see what she's saying, but in that case I'd more likely just not visit...
I keep forgetting how much I hate dealing with college stuff. What a lot to keep up wiht
    Homulilly
    Homulilly
College can really be a lot. My last semester in college, I only took 4 classes and was still stressed over the tops because of my capstone. Anything you want advice on?
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
Thanks for the offer--It's mostly a clash of executive function & workload. I'll be OK next semester.
4 classes is what I'm doing now. Usually it's 5. That does not work so great.
    Gerontius
    Gerontius
Phantom, that's a lot of classes! Slow down a trifle if you can.
You must be a very productive guy.
