You mentioned having a pointer dog. They do seem to leave enough hair around to make several pointer dogs, don't they?
Australian cattle dogs shed pretty badly too but they're quite worth it anyway...
Yes, I have 5 dogs, and one is a Pointer… he sheds. A lot. But the Dogo Argentinos shed a lot too! It’s a misconception that single-coated dogs don’t shed… sometimes more than longhaired dogs in my experience.
I love Australian Cattle Dogs! Are you thinking of getting one? I could probably point you in the direction of a reputable breeder.
I cannot afford the care of a dog right now & if I did, it wouldn't be an ACD. Maggie was a special dog--but I really do not think I could do a repeat of that. If i get a dog it will be a collie (rough not Border) and I am not doing that until I have land of my own as a dog like that needs land to run around on.
Rough Collies are nice too :) My mom used to breed and show them (and Border Collies! She still has a Border Collie)
Border Collies are, um… a bit much. I could not have one again.
I would love to have more land for my dogs. I’ve been considering a move to Québec so maybe can find some land there. Smart to wait to have land for a herding breed. But I know how hard it is to wait.
Yeah, Border Collies are one of my least favorite dogs. Intelligent but they're wound a bit too tight.
I detest living indoors with dogs having done that before so I will be waiting anyway--besides I wanted enough land for gardening & chickens & that sort. Dogs are helpful in the woods because they can hear what humans cannot, and take some of the emptiness out of it. In the woods, I love dogs--but that's about it.
They’re terrible lol. And very intelligent but I believe my Pointer is smarter…
I would really love to have a farm!
Dogs are excellent companions and protectors if you live in the woods or another remote area :) My parents live in the woods. The dogs loved it.
That's the only circumstance I'd ever own a dog in, is in the middle of nowhere. This sounds horrible but I hate seeing, hearing, and smelling dogs in town--Can't go into a coffeeshop any more without dogs all in the place including someone trying to get her service dog to jump on a table.
Maybe it's different if you own the dog yourself & have invested a chunk of your soul in it.
I would really prefer to live in the middle of nowhere too. And I think my dogs would!
Omg, I would never let my service dog jump on a table! That’s very bad etiquette.
It is different if you own one :)
And yes, easy to invest your soul into them :)
Yep. Dogs love it in the middle of nowhere--its like they come alive.
No, the cafe dog people are why I do not want pets right now, but eventually I'll find a good dog somewhere. Cats also are fine but they're not good for outdoors at all.
One of my favorite pets growing up was a chicken.
They really do! :)
I would get annoyed with people bringing misbehaving dogs into a cafe too :/ Some pet owners are really ignorant.
I can help you find a good dog someday if you’d like! Fortunately I have a lot of connections within the community :)
I’ve never had a cat but I don’t mind them. They are cute.
Chickens are nicer pets than people realize. Game birds are interesting too.
