The Study

The purpose of this still life was to make it look like it was last used in 1917 with items gathered from my collections
My grandfather worked for United States Steel as a chemist his entire career from age 21 to 72 when they closed his mill...he collected antique items and had an appreciation for history he nurtured in me. He was a rather odd man who we never say much of on holidays as he knew the value of overtime and was very dedicated to his employer while working in their steel making chemistry lab. Often on Sunday mornings he would visit bringing donuts and discussed what the mixture of metals were in the steel that they made during his shift and why they used them in the alloy. After he passed away,I collected this National Geographic Magazine he had bookmarked to an article about the Homestead Works mill that was written 27 years before he started there. I had a smile on my face as I placed the Geographic in my box remembering Pap Pap always said that if all the people on the east coast sent their collections of National Geographic magazines out to California,it would fall into the ocean :p
