I want to let everyone know that I have no hard feelings over the censorship incident that happened last month with my blog. But I think in a way it was a good thing, because it has freed me up to work on a project that is really important to me. Those of you who have been following me know about the struggles I have faced with my housing situation.
I really feel "called" to work on this issue, and for that I need a bigger platform than Aspies Central. Aspies Central has been good to me. It helped me cut my teeth. Now it is time to go out into the wider world.
I have a new blog called trailerparkcatlady.wordpress.com where I am chronicling and documenting what is going on in my trailer park. Things have started to get really bizarre. The culture of secrecy that surrounds the trailer park industry is incredible. I work in an industry that is super security conscious because of extremists and I have never encountered anything like this. If anything we should be the ones that are not reachable, yet all of the players in my industry are very public. You would recognize many of their names. Their CEO's are a matter of public record. They have websites. In contrast, no one knows who owns my trailer park. Rent is sent to an anonymous PO box.
The other day one of my co-workers scoffed at my story. "I can find them!" he boasted. I gave him what meager information I had and watched him go to work. In five minutes' he had hit the same dead end that others tracking this company have. He turned to me and said, "this is bizarre." He kept poking and poking. No luck.
I have no illusions that this mess is going to be resolved in a few months. I am in it for the long haul. I am taking on a very powerful, well-connected, and secret industry. This will require lots and lots of research online. I know that I am not alone, that there are others going through similar battles, and we have started to band together. I have very big plans for this campaign. I would like to take it national, and even international, if I can. NPR. 60 Minutes. I want to blow the lid off these suckers. It is not right what they are doing to us poor people.
Unfortunately, this does mean distancing myself somewhat from the autistic spectrum community, which is why I have chosen a new name instead of keeping my old one. I have no doubts things could get very nasty verbally. Right now I am very small and they don't know I am out there. But once they do, they will use everything they can to discredit me. I have already experienced the negative power of the Asperger's label in regards to my professional credibility at work. If I bring autism spectrum issues into the fight I risk it becoming all about that, and not about how the very powerful, anonymous owners of mobile home parks are treating their tenants. So perhaps my not being formally diagnosed is an advantage.
I will try to drop in from time to time. In the meantime, please feel free to stop by trailerparkcatlady.wordpress.com
