Thoughts on failure to meet societal expectations

Although society often imposes heavy expectations with us, we often face two problems:

One, is that we aren't able to meet its standards, and
Two, is that we failed to do what we can all achieve.

I believe there are many things that we can't do in category one. What irks me is more of some of us, we have so much potential to unlock our inner selves and to fulfill self-realization yet - we fail in Category 2.

And guess what, those who meet Category 1, some of them, they can't even do their own best - and submit themselves to mediocrity, losing their 'soul' and 'authenticity', which makes them a Category 2 failure.

I know that, having realized I had also failed in not being my own best, and losing focus in what I am really doing.

Sometimes life leads us to disappointments, but I feel I can just do many other, other things that will bring me to what I truly am.
