Social Darwanism

I'm beginning to notice how overprotective and sugar-coated the world is today, or at least it is in the United States. Professional football has turned into a game of pansies trying as much as they can to not hurt opposing players ("Roughing the Quarterback") while wearing nearly three times as much padding as football players wore in the 1930's. The percentage of the general population that takes prescription medication is skyrocketing when compared to even the era of the Vietnman War. Unemployment checks. Welfare. Foodstamps. Social security. How much money can a nation afford to graciously offer to its citizens? Don't misunderstand me, sometimes good and decent people require government assistance and I support it in this case. But what about the percentage of people that accept government handouts simply because it's offered? Three years ago my construction company was forced to restrict the use of industrial tools (concrete saw, log cutter, backhoe, skidloader) to workers of 19 years old or older. This obviously is for safety reasons because minors could seriously hurt themselves. I was 16 years old at the time and had been using most of those tools since I was 14, so why was I restricted? I had proven myself to be a productive member of the team... but the state government held my performance back merely to avoid lawsuits for private companies. It seems in more ways then one that the "American Dream", that everyone can become successful in the United States, is slipping away. How could it be possible to become a FAILURE in a nation like this, and even more disturbing is that it seems just as difficult for people to become SUCCESFUL as well. I'm a very conservative republican, but on some days it seems that anarchy would be a well-utilized stepping stone for some.

Whatever happened to the ideaology of social darwanism? The smarter, stronger, and harder working individuals will be the success stories and the others won't be. It sounds terribly cold and un-forgiving but the beauty of this ideaology is that anyone can become a leader, financially or politically. Born rich or poor has a small bearing on what your potential is. Yet, the unfortunate truth is that what lifestyle you're born into still does have an influence on what you'll become.

I've tried to voice my opinion in the nicest way I can because I honestly am I nice guy. Essentially, it's not the people of today that irritate me. What frustrates me is how easy it is for the people of today to make an easy dollar.

I hope this didn't offend anyone and everybody understands what I've tried saying.
