In just 12 months.

Just over 12 months ago I was in awe of an ultrasound image of a developing 12 week old human brain in utero.

Today I get to witness that brain operating and problem solving.
There's a body and face attached, obviously :)

I'd begun to suspect this 12 month old had an eidetic memory, but further reading would suggest he retains detailed information for longer than (I) expected.

For example,
one of his slippers came off while playing on his wooden rocking horse.
He glanced at his bare foot then continued to climb on and off his horsey.

Approximately 20 minutes,
two doorways with opening and closing doors,
games of peek a boo,
stair safety gate brackets,
eight 'screws',
a light fitting refracting light patterns onto walls,
switching the light switch on and off, a drink of water,
following the family dog into the garden and touching 'pretty flowers'

I asked "Where's your other slipper?
Look for your slipper and fetch it to Nan"

He went straight back to his horse, reached around the back of it to pull out a hidden slipper and carried it to me.

I expected the slipper to be forgotten. Out of sight, out of mind.

Especially in the amount of time that had passed and the numerous other games and activities we'd engaged in with his being 'busy' - he moves from one activity to another quickly.

Obviously not :)
