I confess (Rant alert!) Private to only contacts and mods

I confess: I got a conflict with a fellow user here from Singapore, stemming from a past conflict we have over our interpretations of correcting our stims - because I feel, well, that's what we are, stimming, who are you to correct us when you got stims yourself?

He did tell me to stop stimming because it looks bad on all of us.

This is indeed the fact.

But we are all autistic people, and we are building a community together, and he is threatening to break it from within - because to me, stimming is part of me.

I trust only my contacts see this -

But I don't wish to humiliate him by naming (and shaming) him. Because that's a bad reflection on his part. And it's not as if I don't know I am stimming, btw...

I also confess: I dislike my country's autism community because some autistic people amongst our community claim we have this crutch mentality of autism. It can't be further from the truth. We reveal our autism, and our prospects in competitive employment is slim. And there is no jobless claim in place that really helps autistic people now, for employers want 'social skills' in workers. As we are deemed to have certainly that deficit, of course we don't get jobs.

It's not that we should totally depend on autism to get what we want. it's just that we need to recognize that autism does not just limit our ability to have friends, to smile at other people, to feel happy in NT settings, whatever.

It's just that we need to recognize that we are autistic and we have predetermined deficits in socialization. It's just to recognize that we have our own ways to socialize, with or without friends, with or without NTs. It's just that we need space to be ourselves.

If I don't think I can fit in your space, I guess it's best that I am out of your sight and out of your mind. Go ahead and do what you want. I have my own career, my family and my community to work for - which is, the community which really encourages all autistic people to maximize their values.

I ask you, which autistic person on Earth would work hard if he is told to totally change his personality to fit into an NT mould? The very, very best Aspies don't. So to such even 'Aspies' who made this ignorant comment, you're yourself ignorant.

Enough of rants. Thanks.
