Had an early night as I was shattered on Tuesday. Woke up at 5am. Figured I'd wake and bake because work doesn't start for 3.5 hours. I went into the garden and the first slither of light was visible on the horizon. Not long after I'd sparked up I heard a meow from the darkness. I went over to investigate the edge of the garden and a little black cat came out. I could barely make out any detail other than a bell on it's collar as it moved. Really affectionate little thing. I made a fuss of it throughout and at one point said out loud "this is just what I need". It was nice, and when I walked to put out the J I noticed it following me. So I sprinted back into the house. I love running as fast as you can for pure enjoyment. It gives you a real buzz.
Now it's an hour of music. I bought Red Dead Redemption II last night. Big game download, but it's only got 160 mins left on the download. I was put off by the recommended specs as my 6700K and 1080 GTX are a little long in the tooth now and I'm running at 1440 resolution. In fact, I noticed the recommended specs for Farcry 6 is a 7700K and 1070 GTX. My PC is surpassed by CPU and a notch behind on the GPU requirements. I'd considered a tune up of my current PC rather than a brand new build. New GPU, PSU and CPU cooler and overclock the CPU. Comes in a lot cheaper than a new build. Although GPU's are no longer 25-35% of the build budget. Now they're over 50% which is a hard thing to justify. I skipped Nvidia's 20 series and I don't really want to have to wait for the 40 series. Truth be told, I could. Heck I could turn the monitor to 1080 resolution and get several more years using my current GPU.
I miss being able to run everything at ultra graphics settings. Yet, it'd be a lot more expensive to build that sort of computer nowadays. Not just for games in the here and now, but to give you a few years headroom. This build is over 5 years old now and still going the distance. I do miss doing a nice computer build. There's something therapeutic in admiring and opening up all of the various boxes, then gradually building up from the case. That moment when you switch it all on and it boots up for the first time - a warm sense of accomplishment.
I'm definitely a morning person these days. Maybe I should write more blogs in the morning, before work has started to upset me.
