I just got off the phone with a woman from a state government office in Lansing, and it is not good news.
The park is not required to have a manager, either on site or off.
The park is not required to have leases. It appears we are on a month-to-month lease.
As far as the meter readings are concerned, it is a he said/she said situation. Your word against theirs.
My only recourse is to contact the Public Service Commission. However, if the park is not regulated, there is very little they can do.
Other than that, file a complaint with the Attorney General and/or see a lawyer.
However, she DID give me a name, phone number and address of the Michigan license holder of the park. That is more than a lot of people have done.
Earlier today I went to the township office and I did find out from tax records that they haven't paid property taxes for this year on the park. They may be a little late, or it may be a sign of something worse. I then went to the village office and requested information on where the water bill is being sent. Guess what, I had to fill out a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) form and they will take it to their attorney and HE will decide if this is information that can be released. Why is this such a state secret?
The woman from Lansing was sympathetic but she cannot do anything. She even admitted it was not just. I told her I have spent my vacation time either on the phone or on the computer being given the grand run-around. For information that should be quick and easy to access. This is why my neighbors choose to focus on the alleged sex offender. This is just too much hard work for them. If I am finding it difficult, how much more for them.
I think the best thing for me to do is to start looking around for another place and see about selling my trailer as migrant housing or scrap.
